the manifestation of botanophobia

Sometime in the future, Julia may be asking us the following question: Why am I afraid of plants? Hmm. What do we say? How did it originate? It could be a number of reasons.

1. You don't like the way grass feels so you won't crawl on it. (Although this is getting better.)

2. You like the look of flowers and reach to touch, but when we bring you close, you pull away your hand and body. You make smelling noises when you see flowers, but can't get close enough to smell.

3. You don't like it when you are crawling outside and get dirt/twigs/maple leaf helicopters on your hands. You've gotten good at wiping the stuff off with the other hand, or on your clothes. Or you eat it, unless mommy or daddy stop you in time.

4. Or, the fear may primarily be due to the time we were riding in the car (yesterday) and a plant we got tipped over onto your leg. (AAAHHH, a-t-t-a-c-k of the killer flower vine). You eyes WELLED up instantly with tears and you cried cried cried. It was so traumatic, you even dropped the rice cake you were eating (which you normally love). After a few minutes of giving apprehensive looks at the plant that was straightened but still in the back seat beside you, you began eating the rice cake again.

Anyone have the number of a good psychiatrist?

Ha, ha, very funny! Don't worry! Now that we have Julia out of the city and into the burbs, I'm committed to her being one with nature, grass, bugs, mud and all of the finer things in life. "No daughter of mine will be afriad of a plant!" It just takes time with a 1 year old. Time, we have plenty of it.

xoxo,
Dad
