Yesterday, we attended our birthing class we had booked months ago. For awhile there, we thought we were not going to make the class before pigglet was born. But, we made it and it was a full and exhausting day of information.
15 very pregnant woman, all around the same stage, waddling around. 15 doting and nervous husbands or boyfriends. 1 couple pregnant with twins. 1 very graphic video of a birth that was shown after lunch, which most likely grossed the men out more than the women. It was more entertaining watching the audience response to be honest. The only part that made me wince was the epidural. Jack thought it was all cool and is now ready and hoping the doctor will let him "catch" pigglet when s/he is ready to enter the world!
All in all, it was a crash course in everything from breathing, anesthesia, delivery, complications, c-sections, breastfeeding, and a hospital tour (aka where I had already been in my prior hospital stint). Also provided was advice to the supportive partners on how to be supportive - and what won't likely be perceived as supportive especially in the latter stages of delivery!!! : )
It was also a reminder that there was no turning back now..and the reality of that set in with everyone in the room. Oh boy. Breathe...
